Craniosacral Therapy

Helping your body to access your own natural healing mechanisms.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle light touch, hands on therapy that addresses imbalances and tension within the Craniosacral system, nervous system and the body as a whole. The Craniosacral  system comprises of the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. By creating balance and harmony within the craniosacral system it influences your body’s own unique ability to heal globally. Craniosacral therapy is rooted in osteopathic principles but is also informed by modern neuroscience.

A session usually lasts 45-60 minutes during which the therapist will mindfully and intentionally place hands at various places on your body to assess and influence the state of your Craniosacral system and thereby your nervous system, helping to release long held tension and trauma. A detailed history will be taken at the first treatment and the client will usually lie up on their back fully clothed with the exception of shoes, belt and other heavy items.

Afterwards, the client may feel a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing, some tiredness, and often an improvement in the condition that initially brought them to see a Craniosacral therapist although it may take a course of sessions to feel the full effect.

Craniosacral therapy is appropriate for adults and children from birth onwards. It is also suitable for pregnancy and after delivery. It can be useful as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with other therapies and medical treatment with the clearance of a doctor.
